The Fulbright Commission's annual reception was held at the Residence of the United States Ambassador to Iceland, Mr. James I. Gadsden, on May 11th. This reception is in honor of the recently chosen Icelandic Fulbrighters, who will be leaving for study and research in the U.S. this coming fall. Nine Fulbright grants were awarded.
The new Fulbrighters are:
Ms. Asdis Helgadottir, Ms. Ellen Drofn Gunnarsdottir, Ms. Hildur Einarsdottir, Mr. Kolbeinn Tumi Dadason, Mr. Ulfar Freyr Stefansson and Mr. Ymir Vigfusson, all graduate students, and Dr. Gunnar Gudmundsson who received a Fulbright research grant. The Commission's board of directors also administers two other awards. One is the Cobb Family Fellowship Award for graduate study at the University of Miami, FL, which was founded by former U.S. Ambassador to Iceland Mr. Charles E. Cobb Jr. The recipient of this grant in 2005 is Ms. Erna Hjaltested. Ther other is the Frank Boas Scholarship for International Legal Studies at the Harvard Law School, which this year goes to Mr. Eirikur Jonsson. It may be added, that the nominees of 8 European Fulbright Commissions compete for this scholarship yearly.
Some of the grantees were absent.
